Cementing Problems
When applying cement, use an adequate amount with a light wiping action to spread
uniformly over the surfaces of the pipe and a light coat inside the fitting. The
cement works by slightly degrading the surface of the pipe and causing it to bond
with the fitting.
However, if too much cement is used, the integrity of the pipe is at stake.
If the cement is allowed to run down the inside of the pipe or to puddle
(as
seen in the top photo-the blue cement puddled inside the pipe), the pipe
is weakened. The cement can dissolve the pipe at this point, and with the
application
of pressure, cause a rupture (as seen in the bottom photo- the
crack
to the left of the fitting, with the blue cement actually coming through).
